Description

The Corby is a compact square sconce that throws narrow beams onto the wall it is fixed to, so the light becomes a pattern on the surface rather than a glare at eye level. On brick, stone or textured render that raking light is the whole point: it picks up the surface and gives a flat facade some depth after dark.

It comes in two outputs. The 6W version is an accent light, right for a small entrance, a garden wall or a run of fixtures where you want rhythm rather than brightness. The 12W version is roughly double the output and suits a wider facade, a driveway wall or a spot where the fixture has to carry a larger area on its own.

Three colour temperatures are offered on both outputs. Warm white flatters brick and stone. Natural white is the safe middle choice. Cool white is crisper and reads as a more modern, functional light. The body is aluminium in matte black, the LED is integrated so there is no bulb to replace, and the housing is sealed to IP65 for fully exposed walls with nothing overhead.

Corby Square Beam Sconce, Black IP65 Waterproof LED Outdoor Wall Light

Best On Textured Walls

Put it on a brick pier, a rough rendered wall, a stone facing or a boarded fence and the beams graze across the surface. On flat painted plaster there is nothing for them to catch, so the effect largely disappears.

A Fan Of Beams

Rather than a soft even wash you get a defined pattern thrown out across the wall. Mounted at around head height it is dramatic without ever being bright enough to dazzle someone walking towards it.

Small Fixture, Large Effect

At 10 cm square in matte black aluminium it is deliberately small, so what you notice after dark is the light pattern rather than the fitting. The LED is built in, so there is never a bulb to change.

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose 6W or 12W?

The 6W is an accent light, right for a small entrance, a garden wall, or a run of fixtures where you want rhythm rather than brightness. The 12W is roughly double the output and suits a wider facade, a driveway wall, or a position where one fixture has to carry a larger area on its own.

Will it work on a flat painted wall?

It will light, but you lose most of the point. The fixture pushes narrow beams sideways across a surface, and a smooth painted wall gives them nothing to graze over. Brick, rough render, stone facing or a fence with visible boarding all have relief for the beams to catch, which is where the pattern really shows.

How high should it be mounted?

Around head height suits it. That puts the beam fan across the most visible part of the wall and keeps the pattern well proportioned. At 600 lumens it is not bright enough to dazzle anyone walking towards it from that height, and it sits flat against the wall at only 6 cm deep, so there is nothing to knock into.

Does it need a bulb?

No. The LED is integrated into the fixture, so there is nothing to buy now and nothing to replace over its life. That is part of what keeps the body compact at 10 cm square. It hardwires to a standard fixed outdoor connection and is offered for 110 to 120V and 220 to 240V supplies.

Can it go somewhere fully exposed?

Yes. It is IP65 weather rated for exposed positions with nothing overhead, so a boundary wall, a gate pier or an open elevation is fine. It fixes flat to the wall on a standard mount and is hardwired, so plan for a cable at the position rather than an outdoor socket.
