Description

The Cairn is a solar post cap light that sits on top of a standard four by four fence post or a deck railing post. It replaces the cap, so there is nothing to run and nothing to wire, and it turns a line of posts into a lit boundary after dark.

It is offered in black or white. Black disappears against a dark stained fence and reads as part of the post by day. White suits a painted fence or a pale deck rail and stays visible as a detail. Both are the same fitting underneath, so choose on what your posts already look like.

It charges through the day and switches on at dusk by itself. This is a marker light rather than a working one: it shows where the boundary and the steps are and gives a deck some atmosphere, but it will not light the deck itself. Because the panel sits on top of the post it is usually well placed for sun, but a post under a tree or against a north facing wall will still run flat early in the evening.

  • Fits a standard four by four post or deck rail post
  • Black or white finish
  • Solar powered, no wiring or transformer
  • Charges by day, switches on automatically at dusk
  • Marker light rather than a working light
  • IP65 rated for full weather exposure

Cairn Solar Post Cap Light, Black IP65 Waterproof Wireless Solar Fence

Along A Drive Or Boundary

Fitted along a driveway or a garden boundary at regular intervals, a row of these does more to define a space at night than a single bright fixture ever will. On a run of posts the effect is immediate and even.

Outdoor lighting in use

Down And Outward Light

It lights downward and outward from the corners, so the glow lands on the post itself and the ground immediately around it. That is what makes a run of posts read as a line after dark rather than as scattered points of light.

Flat Top, Sealed Body

The weatherproof plastic body is sealed to IP65 for constant exposure, and the flat top means rain runs off rather than pooling around the panel. It fixes with screws in minutes, charges through the day and switches on at dusk with nothing to set.

Frequently asked questions

Will it fit my fence posts?

It is 16 cm square and 10 cm high, which matches the standard post sizes used in most timber fencing. It sits flush on the post top and fixes with screws. Measure your post tops first if they are an unusual size, because the cap needs to sit squarely on the timber.

Does it need wiring?

No. It is solar with a simple screw fixing, so there is no cable, no trenching and no electrician. The panel charges through the day and the light comes on at dusk with no timer or switch involved. Fitting one takes minutes, which is what makes a whole run of posts a realistic afternoon job.

Where should I site it?

On post tops that get direct sun for a few hours during the day. Under a tree canopy or in permanent shade the panel will not take enough charge and output through the night will be short. Along a driveway or an open boundary is ideal, and it is sealed to IP65 for fully exposed positions.

How does the light fall?

Downward and outward from the corners of the cap, so it lights the post and the ground immediately around it rather than throwing a beam across the garden. Fitted at regular intervals along a run, that defines the line of a drive or a boundary far better than one bright fixture in the middle.

Which finish should I choose?

Black or white. Black disappears against a dark stained fence and reads as part of the post by day. White suits a painted fence or a pale deck rail and stays visible as a detail. Both are the same fitting underneath, so choose on what your posts already look like.
