Description

The Aurora is a small solar garden light in black, offered in five light colours. It charges through the day and switches on at dusk by itself, so there is no wiring, no trench and no timer to set. It fixes with screws to a fence, a deck post or a patio wall.

The choice of light colour is what this fixture is for. Warm light is the conventional garden tone, soft and yellow, and suits a boundary you walk past every evening. White light is cleaner and more functional. Yellow light is warmer still and reads almost like candlelight. Two colour alternates between two tones. Colour changing cycles through a full range, which is the one people buy for a deck or a party corner rather than for a front boundary.

Whichever you choose, this is decorative rather than functional light. It marks an edge and gives a fence or a deck some atmosphere after dark. It will not light a path well enough to walk safely by on its own. Site it where the panel gets several hours of direct sun, because a shaded panel is the single most common reason a solar light runs flat early in the evening.

  • Black body, solar powered
  • Warm, white, yellow, two colour or colour changing
  • Charges by day, switches on automatically at dusk
  • Screw fixing, no wiring or electrician
  • Decorative accent light, not a path light
  • Weather resistant for outdoor use

Colour Without Any Wiring

You can put colour along a fence line or around a patio without an electrician, a transformer or a metre of cable. It screws to the timber and charges itself, so the whole job is a screwdriver and ten minutes.

Outdoor lighting in use

Accent Light, Not Floodlight

At 45 lumens this marks a line rather than lighting a space. One unit on its own looks modest, but six or eight at even spacing add up, picking out posts and edges so the shape of the garden still reads after dark.

Sealed Plastic Body

The body is PP and ABS, sealed to IP65, so it can sit on a fully exposed fence or wall. It charges by day and comes on at dusk by itself, with no timer to set. Site it where the panel gets direct sun.

Frequently asked questions

Which light colour should I choose?

Five are offered. Warm is the conventional garden tone and suits a boundary you walk past every evening. White is cleaner and more functional. Yellow is warmer still and reads almost like candlelight. Two colour alternates between two tones, and colour changing cycles through a full range, which suits a deck or a party corner rather than a front boundary.

Does it need any wiring?

No. It is solar powered with a screw fixing, so there is no cable, no transformer and no electrician. It charges through the day and switches itself on at dusk with nothing to set. The only real requirement is a position where the panel gets direct sun for several hours rather than permanent shade.

How bright is it?

0.45W and 45 lumens, which is decorative accent light rather than illumination. It will mark a fence line, pick out a post or add points of colour around a seating area. It will not light a path well enough to walk by, so plan on a group of six or eight rather than a single unit.

Can it go on an exposed fence?

Yes. The PP and ABS body is sealed to IP65, which is rated for fully exposed positions, so an open fence, a boundary wall or a deck rail is all fine. Exposure is actually helpful here, because the panel needs direct sun. Avoid siting it under dense planting or in permanent shadow.

How big is a single unit?

6.5 cm wide and 11 cm high, so it is a small wedge that sits close to the surface. At that size one on its own reads as a detail rather than a feature, which is why spacing several along a fence run works better. They are cheap enough that buying a set at once is sensible.
