Description

The Alder is a slim solar wall light with a motion sensor built into the front, offered in matte black or a warm rose gold copper finish. It is just over 13 cm wide and under 8 cm tall, which keeps it discreet on a door frame, a shed wall, or the side of a garage. Black disappears against dark timber and modern render. The copper tone warms up against brick and stone in a way plain black never manages. Both are the same fixture underneath, so pick on looks alone.

There is no wiring. The panel on the top face charges through the day and the sensor brings the light up when someone moves nearby, then lets it fall away again a short time later. That makes it useful in the awkward places a cable will not reach: a side gate, the back of a garage, the top of a set of garden steps. Output is two watts and around two hundred lumens. That is a genuine step up from decorative solar glow and enough to find a keyhole or see your footing, though it is not a floodlight and we would not sell it as one.

Mount it around head height facing the path you want covered, somewhere the top face gets a few hours of direct sun through the day. The body is ABS and AS plastic rated IP65, so it is sealed against dust and against water from any direction and needs no shelter above it. Choose warm 3000K for a softer look near a house, or 5000K white where you want it to read as security lighting.

  • Two finishes: matte black or rose gold copper
  • Solar powered, no wiring and no running cost
  • PIR motion sensor, lights on movement and fades after
  • Around 200 lumens from a 2W LED
  • Warm 3000K or white 5000K
  • IP65 rated, no overhang needed
  • 13 x 7.5 x 3.5 cm, surface mounts with two screws

Alder in black beside a shed door at dusk

Light Where Cables Cannot Reach

Side gates, shed walls and the back of a garage rarely have a supply nearby. This runs on its own solar panel, so you can mount it on any of them without trenching a cable.

Enough To Find The Keyhole

Two watts gives around two hundred lumens, which is well beyond decorative solar glow. It will show you a keyhole or a step edge without pretending to be a floodlight, and it fades away again shortly after you pass.

Two Finishes, One Fixture

Matte black disappears against dark timber and modern render. Rose gold copper warms against brick and stone. Same light, same seal, same size, so choose on looks alone and it will not change how it performs.

Frequently asked questions

Which colour temperature should I choose?

It comes in warm light at 3000K and white light at 5000K. Warm suits brick, timber and anything near the house where you want the light to feel domestic. White at 5000K reads more like a security light and shows detail more sharply, which suits a garage, a bin store or the back of a workshop.

Does it need any wiring?

No, there is no wiring at all. The panel sits on the top face and charges through the day, then the light comes on in the evening when the sensor is triggered. That is what makes it useful on a side gate, a shed or the top of garden steps where no cable reaches. Give the panel several hours of direct sun each day.

Where should I mount it so the sensor works well?

Mount it around head height and face it along the path rather than straight down. The sensor picks up movement across its field earlier that way, so the light is already up by the time you reach the door. Aiming straight down often means you walk into the detection zone at the same moment you arrive.

Can it be fitted somewhere fully exposed to rain?

Yes. It is rated IP65, so full weather exposure is fine and it does not need an overhang or a porch above it. The body is ABS and AS plastic in either matte black or a rose gold copper finish, and it measures 13 cm wide by 7.5 tall by 3.5 deep, so it sits close to the wall on a door frame or a shed side.

Which finish should I choose?

It makes no difference to how it works, only to how it looks on your wall. Matte black is the safer choice on dark timber, grey render, black window frames and modern doors, where it reads as hardware and stays out of the way. The rose gold copper suits red or buff brick, stone and painted timber, where the warm tone picks up the surrounding colour instead of sitting on it as a dark block.
