Barrow Stable Lantern Sconce, Rustic Wood & Iron Indoor Wall Light for Hallway, Farmhouse & Boot Room

The Barrow is a lantern hung from a shaped wooden bracket, in the manner of an old stable or barn light. The wood is finished in a rust tone that reads as weathered rather than new, and the lantern body combines glass panels with a metal frame. It is a deliberately characterful fixture, the opposite of the flush aluminium boxes that dominate this category.

It belongs indoors or in a fully covered position. The manufacturer rates it for dry locations only, so a hallway, a stairwell, a boot room, a covered barn passage or a deep porch that never sees rain are all appropriate. An exposed garden wall is not. Fitted above a console table or along a corridor it gives a warm, settled kind of light.

It takes a standard E26 bulb, which is not included, and that is an advantage here. A warm filament bulb suits the period look and is visible through the glass, so you can tune the whole character of the fixture with the bulb you choose. At 42 cm high and projecting 24 cm from the wall it has real presence, so allow space around it. It is a fixture people notice and comment on, which is rarely true of a plain wall light.
