Description

The Corran is a kerosene style lantern sconce in bamboo and glass with a copper finished frame. It borrows the shape of an old storm lantern, the tall chimney and the bulbous glass body, and hangs it off the wall as a bracket light. In a hallway or up a stairway it reads as something found rather than bought.

Three versions are offered. Type A comes in red copper, which is darker and warmer, or yellow copper, which is brighter and more brass like. Type B is offered in red copper and differs in the frame profile and the proportion of the glass. All three share the same bamboo detailing and the same fitting.

This is a dry location fitting. The bamboo and the glass are not made for weather, so it belongs in a hallway, on a stairway, in a boot room or anywhere else under a roof, not on a porch that catches rain. It takes a bulb rather than an integrated LED, and no bulb is included, so you choose the brightness and the tone yourself. A warm, low output bulb suits the lantern shape far better than something bright and cool.

Corran Bamboo Kerosene Style Lantern, Rust Black Bamboo & Glass Indoor

Hallways And Quiet Stairwells

This is a dry location fixture, so it belongs in a hallway, a stairwell, or a screened porch with a solid roof and walls. Keep it away from an exposed entry wall, a garden fence, or anywhere rain, snow or blown spray can reach.

Outdoor lighting in use

Warm Glow Through Glass

A clear filament bulb suits the kerosene reference and looks correct through the glass chimney. Keep the colour temperature warm, around 2200K, so the bamboo stays golden rather than washing out to grey under a cooler lamp.

Bamboo, Metal And Glass

Woven bamboo over a metal frame with a glass chimney shade. The wrapping is what gives it character, catching light in a way painted metal never does, and it is the detail that carries the piece whichever design you choose.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this outside?

No. It is rated for dry locations only and it is not waterproof, so it should not be mounted anywhere rain, snow or blown spray can reach it. A hallway, a stairwell, or a screened porch with a solid roof and walls is right. An exposed entry wall, a garden fence, or a porch open to weather is not.

What are the three versions?

Type A comes in red copper, which is darker and warmer, or yellow copper, which is brighter and more brass like. Type B is offered in red copper and differs in the frame profile and the proportion of the glass. All three share the same bamboo detailing and the same fitting.

Does it include a bulb?

No. It takes a single E26 bulb, which is not supplied. A clear filament bulb suits the kerosene reference and looks correct seen through the glass chimney, where a frosted or spiral lamp reads wrong. Stay warm, around 2200K, so the bamboo keeps its golden tone instead of washing out under a cooler light.

How high should I mount it?

Roughly eye level or a little above, the way a real kerosene lamp would have hung. Give it enough clear wall around it that the silhouette reads properly, because the shape is doing most of the work here. On a stairwell, set it so the glass sits above head height for anyone passing on the treads below.

What does the woven bamboo add?

It is what gives the lantern its character. The woven base catches light in a way painted metal never does, so the shape reads warm rather than hard against a wall. The metal frame and the glass chimney do the structural work while the bamboo carries the look, and a warm bulb keeps it golden.
